GPOML - Gratuitous picture of my library.
Until recently, my library had stacks that extended across the main floor to within eight feet of the end of the reference desk (on the right side of the photo). The shelving was not original to the library and not all the shelving matched.
Over the summer we shifted a substantial number of books to our lower level. As a result we were able to remove the extra, mismatched bookshelves, opening up a massive amount of space on our main floor, making the library feel more open, less claustrophobic, and easier to navigate.
